As you’ll see on the website, there is also opportunity to get a Private in with a couple of the coaches if that’s something you’d like.

Everyone shares the friendly attitude we have here, and it’s hard to find a friendlier training environment. The ATC is loads of fun and, though you’ll certainly learn lots and get lots of training in, there is a good balance of training sessions versus down-time. Having said that, even if you have no experience in one of the arts, you can still attend both lots of sessions - I can give you a few bits of foundation before we go. For the last two years, all the Crazy Monkey Defense sessions have been in the morning and all the Monkey Jits has been in the late afternoon, so there are options for half day attendance if you only train one of those. You can book for the Camp itself through the Crazy Monkey Malaysia website (remember all prices are in US$).

A bunch of other choices exist - a few people stay at AirBnBs nearby and I’ve heard good things, so if you would rather have a full apartment, that’s an option. If you want to save a few dollars whilst still staying at a hotel, this is a good option. I have also stayed at Cititel Hotel which is a comfortable - though clear step down from The Gardens - option on the other side of the mall. Here is the link (use bestratestgiles for the cheapest price): I’ll be staying Wednesday night to Sunday day but it would be very easy to stay a few extra days and use this as a base for sight-seeing.

I’ve stayed there four or five times and I always enjoy it - it’s a four star hotel (I think) but you’ll pay less than an Australian motel per night. Plus, Mid Valley Mall is a very big mall with a bunch of food, shopping, and entertainment options that you can simply go downstairs to visit. The Garden Hotel & Residence at Mid Valley Mall is very comfortable and close to everything that relates to the ATC. Otherwise, you could fly over at Thursday lunchtime and be there in time for a nights sleep before the ATC starts on the Friday morning. Note that I usually fly down on the Tuesday afternoon before the ATC then across to KL at Wednesday lunchtime via Malaysia Airlines, so if you want to travel with me, let me know and I’ll give you the full details. Check out Skyscanner for deals - expect to pay somewhere from 850 to 950 to fly return from Armidale to Kuala Lumpur. Singapore) though you are substantially adding to travel time if you do this. You also have options for flying via a couple of nearby hubs (e.g. If you want to go even cheaper, Air Asia also flies direct, though they are a (very) budget airline.

I personally fly Malaysia Airlines, as they fly direct to KL from Sydney, and they’re fairly cheap. I find that AU$300 normally covers all my food and transport (outside of airfare) for four days, but I usually add a bit to that for gifts to family. There are three main areas to organise for a trip to the ATC:Īfter those, it depends on how much spending money you would like to bring. If you’re staying nearby (as detailed below) it’s less than a 5min taxi ride to get there. Vince is also responsible for a lot of the Crazy Monkey Branded Gear you see around the Studio, so there is a bunch of gear available if you want to buy anything (plus you get an ATC t-shirt when you arrive). There is plenty of mat space for everyone, as well as toilets and changing facilities. If you have an Australian Passport, you don’t need to pre-apply for a visa - just make sure you have at least 7 months left until it expires when you enter and they’ll give you a visa at immigration.Īll the training takes place at Crazy Monkey Malaysia, a great gym run by long-time Crazy Monkey Defense Trainer and BJJ Black Belt Vince Choo. Kuala Lumpur is a great location for us, as almost everyone speaks English and the signs and directions are generally very easy to understand and follow as well. The ATC takes place every year on the second weekend of August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at Crazy Monkey Malaysia.
